Beat sense Educational Music Workshops
Beat Sense is a series of educational music workshops facilitated by Street Light Boutique. In these workshops we strive to provide learners with a deeper understanding of the thought behind music and music based expressions.
Beat Sense I - Intro to DJing
Beat Sense I is an educational music workshop that introduces young people to introductory DJ skills using mathematical concepts. Beat Sense I provides students with an opportunity to apply and refine math skills that they have acquired during the school day and apply them kinesthetically via the creative art of deejaying. Through the use of mathematical operations and algebraic thinking, students will be able to mix and mesh their favorite songs together for non stop music and fun!
Beat Sense II - Poetry & Songwriting
Beat Sense II is a songwriting class where learners will learn about the many poetic devices used in songwriting. Beat Sense II provides students with an opportunity to analyze poetry and popular music to develop an understanding of the similarity between poetry and songwriting. Through the understanding of poetic devices and analyzation of popular music, students will be able to use their current experiences and write their own songs!
Beat Sense III - Social Justice in Music
Beat Sense III provides learners with the space to critically analyze both modern and classic popular music and decipher the historical content of the music, from a social justice lens. Students will understand the representation of stereotypes and bias fueled concepts in music, and well as the historical climate that fueled the music. Through the analyzation of music ingrained in social justice movement, learners will develop a deeper understanding of social climates and develop a keener ear for listening and digesting songs.
